Katherine McDermott

McDrmt_112BWsmlr“For the last decade, I’ve put my own art career sort of “on hold” and operated a physical, retail Art Gallery.  Now, I have the wonderful opportunity to focus on my own future as a Fine Artist”

She painted her first watercolor in 1996 and has been accepted into a number of juried shows – including the well known “Masterworks of New Mexico”. Katherine has shown in Angel Fire ArtsFest many of the past 12 years, winning second place in the Fine Arts category for her Poppy Power in 2000. Her work has also been featured on the cover of Enchantment Magazine, Your Host New Mexico Magazine and the 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 Parade of Homes, Sangre de Cristo Homebuilders Association Magazine.  She received an Achievement Award from the New Mexico Commission on the Status of Women in 2004 and has served as Judge for the Eagle Nest High Country Arts and Crafts Show in 2004, 2006 and 2010. Known for her dramatic use of color and composition, Katherine’s work is diverse, ranging from architectural compositions to pet portraits, still life, landscape, floral, and portraits. “I simply can’t restrict myself to one subject matter, one color palette or one medium.  When a fall landscape whispers to me “pastel” that is what I reach for.  At the same time, my love for watercolor pours from me on a moment’s notice when I see a sunset or sunrise that paints the sky with color. Scratchbord ™ is what I reach for when I’m yearning for detail and realism.” You can see more of her work online at www.angelfireartspace.com or her personal site, www.katherinesfineart.com, where collectors from around the world have discovered her vivid watercolors, pastels, scratchboards and mixed media pieces.  She has been a contributor of work to the annual Music from Angel Fire Art Auction as well as other private benefit events.

In addition to working full time in her studio and virtual gallery, Katherine offers private one-on-one instruction and custom group workshops. She maintains multiple online galleries and offers video instruction on www.katherinesarttv.tv, for which she is recognized around the world.  She stays active serving on the Board of Directors of Creative New Mexico, a statewide Arts Service and Advocacy group.
